Movement in a Storm Moshi Moshi * * * *
Londoner Yuill has been described as a one-man band armed with a laptop, an acoustic guitar and a mixing desk. So its no surprise that the music on his second album (following the 2008 excellent debut,
Turning Down Water for Air
) is influenced as much by Radiohead and Nick Drake as it is by Chemical Brothers and Aphex Twin. Such a mixture could come across as trying too hard, but Yuill tempers his enthusiasm with a surefooted grasp of the dynamics of beats and the subtleties of rhythm. He also applies a killer touch to the melody lines, which makes the likes of
Foreign Shore, Sing Me a Song, Wild Goose at Night
and
Crying for Hollywood
stand out as potential summer- supreme radio tunes. A stealthy, feelgood album for balmy climes? Roll on the sunshine. See jamesyuill.com
