Vince Griffin of Ennis, Co Clare, got in touch about Homebase in Limerick. He realised that potted plants he and his wife had bought at the DIY store were priced only in sterling. At the till, the amounts were then converted to euro at the out-of-date rate of €1.62 to stg£1. The rate that day was €1.38 to stg£1.
Homebase told PriceWatch: "A system is in place to ensure that all products are manually re-priced in euros before they reach the shop floor. Homebase would like to apologise if there has been an instance where this has not been the case.
"We recognise that the euro has strengthened significantly against sterling recently and therefore the exchange rate we apply to set the prices in our Irish stores is now under review. We apologise to Mr and Mrs Griffin for any inconvenience caused."
If you notice a significant price increase or discrepancy, let us know by emailing pricewatch@irish-times.ie
