DID I make it home last night? Why am I being threatened by a great balloon wobbling off the stage of Galway's Big Top again this's morning, when Mummenschanz did the same thing to me last night? Do the wobbly balls of Galway have it in for me?
Fred Garbo and Daielma Santos are, it soon becomes clear, a very different proposition from the Swiss company, and the illusions created by their vast inflatables are just for fun. This is a circus style act, with its performers large as life on the stage before you, grinning (Daielma) and wisecracking (Fred).
The breakdown of roles is a bit wearing, with Daielma (from Brazil), doing the pretty lady bit lots of ballet, a can can, and some very stylish acrobatics, while Fred (from the US) interprets. But the inflatables themselves, a gorgeous "air dale" dog, a hilarious cushion dress, and an inflatable man and woman, who meet, alas inconclusively, are highly enjoyable, and went down an absolute storm with the little Galwegians.
