CityJet's chief executive, Mr Pat Byrne, was incorrectly quoted in the Business pages last Saturday as saying there was no training school for commercial pilots in Ireland. What he said was that there was no Irish flight training organisation licensed in accordance with the Joint Airworthiness Authorities Flight Crew Licensing Standard which comes into effect for all EU member-states on July 1st, 1999.
In a report published on July 30th it was stated that the United Nations Secretary-General, Mr Kofi Annan, had "raised a storm in Mexico this week by hinting at a possible role in settling the increasingly violent conflict" in Chiapas, south-east Mexico. Mr Annan made it clear after his meeting with President Ernesto Zedillo that "the United Nations does not get involved in the internal affairs of a country without a request from its government and there has been no request".
