A GEORGE IV mahogany four-door bookcase with a good provenance fetched the top result of £5,100 at Thomas P. Adams's sale in Blackrock, Co Dublin, last Tuesday. The strong price is a good indication of how high people are prepared to go if they feel that a piece is "right". According to the auctioneer, the bookcase has not had an ounce of polish applied to it in the last 100 years. Also in the sale, a Victorian mahogany Dend dining table fetched £2,700 and a set of eight Victorian Chippendale-style mahogany dining chairs sold for £2,200.
