Acquisitions: Royal Bank of Scotland group's purchase of First Active Plc for €887 million is the latest in a long line of acquisitions by the bank.

Sept 2002: Commonwealth Bancorp Inc of Pennsylvania for $450 million.
April 2003: Port Financial Corp for $285 million in New England.
May 2003: Buys the German credit card business of Spanish bank Santander Central Hispano for €486 million.
June 2003: Buys UK insurer Churchill for £1.1 billion.
July 2003: Community Bancorp, Massachusetts, for $116 million.
