Frankfurt reached its fourth straight record close, helped by gains on Wall Street after a tentative start and sharp rises in heavyweight stocks such as Mannes mann, Volkswagen, Daimler and Telekom. The Xetra DAX, which measures all-day electronic trade, closed 75.28 points higher at 5,254.32.

Paris CAC-100: 3932.02 (-3.86)

French shares finished a touch lower after a dip in the dollar sent profit-taking signals through the market.

Milan Mibtel: 25570 (-108)

Shares closed mostly lower after a hesitant start on Wall Street and an easier dollar triggered a bout of profit-taking at the end of a week of record gains which saw the market rise some 10 per cent.
