Elan has appointed the Merrill Lynch chairman emeritus, Mr Daniel Tully, to its board of directors. Announcing his appointment yesterday, Elan chairman and chief executive officer Mr Donal Geaney said Mr Tully would bring his unique insight into US and global business to Elan. Mr Tully was formerly vice-chairman of the New York Stock Exchange, vice-chairman of the American Stock Exchange and chairman of the board of governors of the National Association of Securities Dealers. He has spent his entire career with Merrill Lynch, where he was chief executive from May 1992 to December 1996 and chairman from June 1993 to April 1997.
